Plans from here - Summer 2020

First off, I want to say that at this time it is more important than ever to stand up and use our voices to create strong and lasting change, but words simply are not enough. We need action. People's lives and rights are at stake, and the harsh reality is that it has been like this for a long time and it is way past time to do better. I want to encourage you to help in whatever way you can. It may be protesting, it may be signing petitions, it may be standing up against racism when you see it in your life, it may be educating yourself and others, it may be donating money, time or resources to others, and hopefully it is a mixture of some or all of these things. I want to remind everyone that this is a movement and not just a moment. It is important to check in with yourself and others and rest when you need to rest. Be conscious of your mental health and the mental health of those around you because while we all need to work together and put in everything we've got, we need to make sure we do not burn ourselves out in the process so we can create a sustainable movement, rather than an energetic moment. Remember that social justice and social change can look different to everyone and it can and should go beyond just social media. Commit to creating lasting change by continuing to do everything you can do in your life, even when topics of race and racism are not the top headline.

Secondly (before I get into my plan), I want to remind everyone to be safe as we are still in a global pandemic. Things may be opening back up, but that doesn't mean that we are all suddenly safe and that the threat is gone. If you are going out to see people be conscious and smart about it. Social distance when you can, and if you're going in public, wear a mask, wash your hands, and keep your distance to keep others safe. Keep donating and helping out your neighbors, loved ones, and strangers in need. As cheesy as it is, we are all in this together and we will need each other now more than ever.

There is so much happening in the world right now and while we all cope in different ways in times of stress, uncertainty, and heartache, I am officially at the place where I'm going to throw myself full-heartedly into things I care about and make the most of everything that is happening. For a while now I have been wanting to put out a blog post a week. I have been thinking, and planning, and replanning, and thinking some more about ideas I have for this blog during the last few months of being at home. I'm ready to make these ideas a reality and I have a plan for it... soooooo... here it is:

This summer isn't going to look like it's supposed to as I have been reminded, but that doesn't mean it can't still be something, right? I use this blog as a form of self-expression. I use it to show growth and I use it on my journey of becoming the most honest, authentic, and unapologetic version of myself while trying to help all of you wonderful readers to do the same. I think growth is so important and I also think sharing your growth and your experiences with others is important because we can all learn from each other. I have always wanted to make something out of my love for writing and creating, but I have always been too afraid that no one would care, support, or access the content I put out there.

I turn 20 in Septemeber and that has been leaving me with a mini freakout. For whatever reason, I felt the need to have things figured out at this time because in my world of quarantine, it seems like all these influencers and everyone I see on the internet are younger than me, my age or slightly older and they SEEM super successful, because what else is social media good for besides creating a somewhat false reality? ANYWAYS, Starting now and throughout the summer I am going to do my best to put out a blog post a week and make some videos that accompany the posts that will be shared through my website and on my YouTube channel. This is my gift to myself to start out my 20s doing something that I love and I hope you all love as well. I want to record all the growth and give myself (and hopefully you all) something to look forward to and some hope in the dark times that are 2020.

I have a lot of really big plans and ideas and while I fear failure, I'm throwing myself into this and hopefully never looking back. It is always important to use our voices and it is something that I have been preaching for a long time. I have realized that recently I haven't been using my voice as much as I want to or could be able to, so that changes now. I'll be switching up the types of posts I am creating as well. Some will be personal, others will be lists of resources I found that week and I want to share with you all, and everything in between. We are all imperfect and all improving, so why not improve together?

I hope you join me on the coming journey and that I can help you in the ways you need.

Here's to growth, making the most of every situation, loving and living fearlessly, and becoming the most authentic, unapologetic versions of ourselves!

With much love,

Two years ago when I thought I was nearing the end of my second round of eating disorder treatment I received an email about the Eating Disorder Coalitions for Research, Policy, and Action's advocacy
